Charlie Weidman of
Charlie's Mooring and Dive Services in Rockland, will be handling
Endeavor's emergence from her watery berth about a mile off
the Rockland Breakwater. The
boat sank July 24 during the opening round of races at the
Friendship Sloop Society's 41st annual regatta.
Strong, gusting winds proved too much for the boat that capsized
and caused the rescue of five people on board.
Weidman said sonar readings taken on Sunday confirmed the exact
location of the boat. He said he did an initial dive Monday to
inspect the boat and said it looks like the boat is in good
condition.
"I could see 80 percent of the hull and it looked fine. The owner
is thrilled," he said.
Endeavor is owned by Betsy Holzman of Southwest Harbor.
Weidman said the boat is resting in approximately 75 feet of
water and there have been several attempts with sonar readings to
locate the boat since it went down.
